Forty-nine souls. “Forty-nine souls” is the number of occupants the fire marshal has limited to Kenai Classical school at our current location – a rented, partial basement at a local church.
The use of a larger facility is critical to the future of Kenai Classical. Kenai Classical is currently operating on a deficit. However, the primary reason for this deficit is the lack of suitable educational space in the community which limits enrollment. In order for the school to grow and become self-sustaining, Kenai Classical needs more room and more students.
Having anticipated this, the Kenai Classical school board pursued other facility options in the community, but the owners were either unwilling to lease to a school or the facility was deemed unsuitable by the local officials. The Kenai Classical board came to the conclusion that the school could only reach self-sustaining capacity by finding a property to develop. After more than three years of looking for a property, one came up for sale that met all of the desired criteria. The property was in an ideal location for the school, on a main road with good access, adjacent to the local sports complex and a community park.
The existing structure is a 7,700 square foot warehouse-style shell which will accommodate seven classrooms (incl. a science lab), front office, commercial kitchen, large restrooms, storage space, and a generous commons area. The board raised funds to purchase the $1.4 million property with its spacious but aging structure. With additional funds, Kenai Classical will be able to complete the remodel and relocate the school.
Since a school building is not used during the summer months, the Kenai Classical school board is eager to partner with other community organizations for use of the facility. The location and building space would be ideal for summer day-camps, overnight lodging for sports teams, large community meetings or events, etc. The Kenai Classical board is excited to see the facility serve the broader community year round.
The new educational space will allow more students to join the robust program at Kenai Classical and bring transformation to the greater Kenai-Soldotna community through education for many years to come.
Training up the next generation is one of the clearest mandates in Scripture from the earliest days.
Deuteronomy 6:5-7 says, " You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children..."
Although we carry many burdens about the future of our country and even our local community, we can be confident that the Lord has called us to train up our children. Yes, that absolutely includes the children who the Lord has blessed us with, and it also includes the children he entrusts into our care. As members of the greater Kenai-Soldotna community, we can rejoice in training up the next generation of children together.
Please know that your contribution to this project is significant no matter how much you are able to give. Whether $20 or $20,000, your partnership brings hope to the young souls of our community. Thank you!!
By God's grace, the new building should be ready for the 2024-2025 school year. Take a look around!
In Genesis 12, God told Abraham, "...I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing." What a beautiful way to think about our lives. Blessed to be a BLESSING!
You can be a blessing by partnering with Kenai Classical. PRAY and GIVE.
We realize that a building project like this has not been undertaken for decades in our community. Construction costs can be prohibitive to non-profits resulting in a "make do" attitude. However, we desire to honor the Lord and inspire this next generation with a beautiful facility, full of joyful learning.
We invite you to bring this request to the Lord with us. Get our latest news by subscribing to our email updates. Thank you for praying!
